Let’s Stop Worrying

Live in “day-tight compartments”

Thomas Carlyle said, “Our main business is not to see dimly at a distance but to do what lies clearly at hand.”

The main cause of worrying is that we thought a lot about our decision made in past and the result of that decision in future. From the above quote, Thomas Carlyle tried to say that we have to try to live in present rather than thinking about the past and uncertain future.

Christ’s prayer: “Give us this day our daily bread.”

Remember that prayer asks only for today’s bread. It doesn’t complain about the stale bread of yesterday that we had to eat; and it doesn’t say: “Oh God, it has been pretty dry out in the wheat belt lately we may have another drought and then how will I get bread to eat next autumn. Or suppose I lost my job, then how could I get bread ?”

Accomplish one job at the time

“Every day is a new life for a wise man.”

From this line, a person can live only one day at a time. If you are trying to live past, present and future all a time. Then you can fail to live anyone of them. As we know we can’t sail on two boats at a time, if we try then we can sink into the river.

I want you to think of your life as an hourglass. You know there are thousands of grains of sand in the top of the hourglass. And they all pass slowly and evenly through the narrow neck in the middle. Nothing you or I could do would make more than one grain of sand pass through this narrow neck without impairing the hourglass. You and I and everyone else are like this hourglass. When we start in the morning, there are hundreds of tasks which we feel we must accomplish that day, but if we don’t take them one at a time and let them pass through the day slowly and evenly, as do the grains of sand passing through the narrow neck of the hourglass, then we are bound to break our own physical or mental structure.

Analyse the problem of worrying and thinking of what the worst can happen?

Rudyard Kipling said: “I keep six honest serving-men (They taught me all I knew) their names are what and why and when and how and where and who.”

First of all, I analysed the situation fearlessly and honestly and figured out what was the worst that could happen as a result of this failure. After figuring out what was the worst that could happen, I reconcile myself to accepting it, if necessary.  From that time on, I calmly devoted my time and energy to trying to improve upon the worst which I had already accepted mentally. And try to reduce the loss. Here one example of how a student can overcome the fear and worry which is eating them from inside.

For eg,  First of all, a student can analyse the problem that what they want like they apply for an entrance exam, they either selected or not selected. And they can think of the worst that could happen i.e, they are not selected. This will help to release their mental pressure and lead to improving the worst cases. And help them to concentrate on the studies rather than thinking of the result.

Dr Alexis Carrel said: “Businessmen who don’t know how to fight against worst die young.”

Why you should try yoga?

Top 10 Unexpected Health Benefits of Yoga | Shape

What is yoga, and why is it so popular? Yoga is a series of stretches and poses that you do with breathing techniques. It offers the powerful benefits of exercise. And since yoga is gentle, almost anyone can do it, regardless of your age or fitness level.

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old discipline from India. It was developed as a practice to unite the mind and body. There are many branches of yoga. All yoga styles can help balance your body, mind, and spirit, but they achieve it in various ways.

A study in The Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine (among others) shows that yoga can build strength in addition to flexibility. And flexibility is the key to strength. When your muscles and the tissues that surround them are super tight, you’re not able to move as much weight with a full range of motion in the gym. Doing yoga helps loosen up those tissues so you can get more out of your strength sessions.

Research in the International Journal of Yoga shows that yoga not only reduces stress, but can help lower anxiety and depression, too. (It can also help battle insomnia, helping people who have it to sleep sounder at night, per researchers in Southern India.) There are as many types of yoga as there are machines in the gym, each having their unique benefits. There’s something for everyone: From hot yoga to aerial yoga to a good ‘ol Vinyasa flow to Ashtanga and Kundalini.

A study in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that yoga can ward off heart disease helping to keep your heart in good form. Since that’s one of the key reasons people do cardio in gyms, to boost heart health, it’s interesting to note that similar benefits can be reaped from a yoga class. The twisting, stretching and folding of a yoga practice are good for the digestive system, the circulatory system, the lymph system and more. It’s a great way to detox the body and can improve your cardiovascular system. And all this while developing stronger muscles. A gym workout is focused just on strengthening muscles and boosting cardio.

Yoga is a different experience in a yoga studio, but you can easily practice yoga at home, outside or in small spaces. All you need is about 6 feet by 4 feet and you have your own yoga studio. A gym workout requires more equipment and more space.

Yoga eases your aches and pains. A gym workout increases them. Yoga slowly stretches muscles and opens the energy channels of the body. The increased flexibility keeps muscles and joints lubricated and healthy. Weights and treadmill can cause strain which leads to soreness and injuries.

Yoga helps you breathe easier. During times of stress, it’s easy to forget to breathe, really breathe, and not just shallow breaths. Without deep breaths, it’s harder to think clearly and fatigue can set in. Yoga focuses on the breath so that when you need it most, those deep breaths are the norm.

Yoga and Mental Health

Patanjali in Yoga sutras says “Yogah chitta vritti nirodhah”  which means the primary aim of  Yoga is removal of fluctuation of mind. Yoga brings about positive health by causing relaxation of the whole body, slowing down the respiration (making it quiet and deep) and calming the mind, thereby helping in improving attention and concentration. It improves awareness of the body, emotions and mind; and the flow of healing ‘Pranic Life Energy’. It increases self-reliance and self-confidence, thereby improving the ability to handle stress. It improves self-regulation thereby helping us take the responsibility of our own health. Improvement of dietary habits and facilitating natural emanation of wastes is also an important part of Yoga.

In general, yoga helps reduce anxiety and improves the senses of well being. It leads to better interpersonal relationships, increases attentiveness lowered irritability levels, and an optimistic outlook in life in healthy individuals.

Yoga has been shown to help improves symptoms in several physical disorders, like diabetes, hypertension, asthma and also in mental disorders, like anxiety, depression and psychosis. Yoga practice has been reported to help depressive symptoms since a long time. It lifts the mood and improves interest in activities, attention /concentration/memory, sleep and appetite. It has been found to have effect on the cognitive/behavourial aspects due to its mindfulness component. Research at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience has also shown that the practice of yoga has effects on biological parameters like increasing the parasympathetic tone, reducing cortisol levels and decreasing the neuro-inflammation in patients with depression. In fact, Yoga has been used as a sole treatment for patient with mild to moderate depression in several recent studies in India and abroad. In patient with psychotic disorder such as schizophrenia, yoga practice has been shown improve socialization, motivation to do activities, occupational functioning, ability to recognize others emotions/feelings, and cognitive abilities. This is probably brought about by the increase in the ‘cuddle hormone’, namely oxytocin, by yoga.

Yoga holds promise as a complementary therapy in cases of tobacco, alcohol and opioid dependence along with routine medical intervention and psychological interventions, with effects during both the acute withdrawal phase and long term relapse prevention. The mechanism include direct decrease in sympathetic discharge that accompanies the withdrawal state as well as improvement in negative mood states and stress reduction during the long term maintenance phase that may prevent a relapse.

The systematic methods of concentration taught in yoga practice have been thought in yoga oractice have been thought to potentially help reduce attention deficits. In addition, yoga may produce a state of calmness and contentment which is lacking in children with Attention –Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Yoga may offer benefits as an effective tool to increase imitation, cognitive skills and social-communicative behaviours in children.

Yoga was practiced in ancient times for overall general well-being and spiritual progress. Current research evidence suggests that yoga can be used as an add-on therapy or in some instances as a sole therapy for psychiatric disorders as well. It not only improves the symptoms, but brings about the holistic change in an individual.

Increasing Relevance of Yoga in Modern Times

Yoga is one of the most ancient Indian Philosophical and Practical system propounded by sage Patanjali (150BCE). Yoga enhances the potentialities of the people. One should control the mind and practice the moral and ethical disciplines before attempting serious Yoga. Yoga should become lifestyle and people should control their food habits, entertainment, trade and commerce in order to be good citizens of the country. Ever since UNO declared June 21st as International Day of Yoga, celebration of this event has become a good phenomenon. Yoga is not about stretching of the body, it is about the self realization.

Yoga-Indian Ethos

Yoga should become a part of our everyday life. Yoga is an ancient Indian science having a scientific background which has an antiquity of 11,500 years. Practice of Yoga can enhance physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and spiritual powers of people. Sage Patanjali says: ‘Yoga can control the modification of our mind-stuff’. Sage Vashisth says in Yoga Vashista treatise that ‘The means for calming mind is called Yoga. India is in the frontline of information technology, biotechnology, nano-science and other types of research. The internal and external stresses of people in these fields can be relieved by practicing Yoga and also for attaining peace and comfort. Various Yoga organization and NGOs and several central universities have popularized Yoga worldwide with efforts.

Yoga and Health

The systems of Ayurveda, Veda and Yoga have enhanced the health and longevity of Indians since time immemorial. Chakara while elaborating on the issue of health of an individual says that complete health means the totality of health body, sense organs and pleasant mind which has been incorporated in the motto of World Health Organisation. In this context, the great contributions of ancient Indian medical doctors like Chakras, Nagarjuna and other Vedic sages merit our attention.

Yoga and Youth:

Yoga should be imparted to children from very young age and it should become their lifestyle. Yoga would become a powerful means for promoting ageless Indian culture and tradition. The practice and perfect understanding of four streams of Yoga such as knowledge ( Jnana Yoga), action (Karma Yoga), devotion (Bhakti Yoga) and meditation (Raja Yoga) would calm down body, mind and release stress. Indian youth who form more than 50% of total population should practice Yoga for the overall development of their personalities. One can learn good habits, become model citizens on the country by practicing Yoga ethics and this alone can bring holistic health for people. Yoga lore are the principles and techniques that are practically applied in the SMET (Self-Management Excessive Tension) program, which has received global popularity for its effectiveness in the stress reduction. Especially the super-busy Executive world has finding great value in regular SMET practice; as it brings about the ‘expansion of awareness’ and ‘depth of perception’ through cyclic pattern of stimulation and relaxation. Yoga could promote the concept of ‘Earth is but one family’ (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam). India can emerge in yogic and spiritual planes and earn the encomium of Yoga Vishwa Guru among the comity of nations in the coming years.

How to Control Your Brain to Stay Positive

Positivity is very important for everyone. It is the way through which you can make life worthy. Positivity is important for an individual’s personality development. It makes you attractive and more confident lifestyle.

Now the question arises, how to stay positive throughout life. So the answer is here, stay in positivity is not a big task. It is all about our thought. What are we thinking? What are the thoughts going into your mind? How do you imagine the world? How you tolerate with any types of situation? How and what we command to our senses?
Our mind is a factory where thoughts are manufacture every time every moment. And our Positive and Negative thoughts are two employees. They manufacture two thoughts. First one is positive thoughts and the second one is negative thoughts. Our mind works on the principle of GIGO, garbage in garbage out, if we put positive garbage inside our brain then our mental appearance should be positive but if we put negative thoughts into our mind then our mental appearance should be negative. Positive employee command to manufacture positive thought whereas negative employee command to manufacture negative thought.

So here we all get how our mind works!! Now next step is that how would you allow your employee to work more effectively. If you want that Positive works more effectively than Negative then you should motivate him to do so. You have to focus more attentively. It is just like the corporate field. If you want to more profit, you need more attention to your weak bone. Positive and Negative employees both work based on our five senses that are eyes, nose, ear, tongue and skin. You need to control all these senses. Because you know that our mind works over the principle of GIGO. You have to manufacture only positive thought only. To manufacture positive thought, you have to command all senses smartly. You should not allow them to watch, hear, speak, smell or touch negative things, not allow to do negative work.

It is all tends to the development of negative thoughts. This is the only way through which you can stop manufacturing of negative thought.

Now we discuss how to control our senses to do so. This can be done through mental treatment. Yoga and meditation are the most famous and it is the only way through which you can avoid and control your senses to do any worst or negative work. Our mind and body both depend on each other. Life is all about balance. Therefore, you have to keep an essential balance for their endorsement. If you do not focus over your body including your senses then negative work will be there which tends to again production of negative thought. And if you will not focus on your brain then again it is similar to active work of negativity and again which tends to the production of negative thought.

The balance between mind and body is most important to keep your personality positive. Manufacturing of thoughts depends on our activity which is commanded by our employee. Your focus will decide activeness of your employee and your employee will decide the growth of factory in the negative or positive side.
